Beckmann Image Gallery

The Cain Vineyard is cradled in a bowl, all to itself, on the crest of the Mayacamas Range at the southern limit of the Spring Mountain District. La Piedra, the dramatic focal point of the vineyard, is composed of greywacke, a type of sandstone, which underlies much of the vineyard and gives birth to its distinctive clay-shale soils.
Spring: Clearing rain clouds reveal La Piedra and a deer in the meadow below.
Summer: Fog fills the Napa Valley, and warms in the morning sun, rising into the Cain Vineyard.
A welcoming oak shades the corral and offers views into the heart of the Cain Vineyard.
Built by a shipwright in 1871, the barn is the legacy of five generations (to date) of the McCormick Ranch.
For over a hundred years this corral received sheep.
Looking northeast across the Napa Valley above the morning fog, from Spring Mountain towards Howell Mountain, an AVA which was defined as being above the fogline.
A glimpse of the earliest ripening Merlot, St. Helena Block, peeks through the forest. Vines cover just one-fifth of the ranch; much has been left in its natural state.
Lakeside, Block X, southfacing, one of the warmest, most protected parts of the Cain Vineyard, perfect for Petit Verdot.
The north-facing slope below La Piedra yields the defining Cabernet Sauvignon which forms the core of the Cain Five.
A grove of redwoods nestles in the canyon below the Cain Vineyard, just beyond the edge of the property.
Winter: In many years, a light dusting of snow will visit this oak growing at 1900 feet.
