Rain on Spring Mountain – March 2016

Follow the raindrops from the top of Spring Mountain down York Creek into St. Helena. Cain received more than a foot of rain over the span of two weeks in March, so the creek has swollen to the edges of its banks. In some years, we’ve seen even twice as much water in our creeks. This is not uncommon for the North Coast — rain comes in from the Pacific in waves. So far we have received over 40 inches for this season beginning in October.

Harvest 2014 in the Cain Vineyard

11am, Saturday, October 4th. The weather is beautiful, temperature 90F. Picking Cabernet Sauvignon above La Piedra, in the block known as “Pink” or “Rosa,” the crew is just finishing their last load of the day before taking a break for the weekend. This beautiful fruit has a good chance to contribute to the 2014 Cain Five. Will it make it? Check with us after May 2015 to find out.

After the Rain – February 2014

One day after the rain, Pacific fog overwhelms the ridge and flows down through Cain Vineyard into the Napa Valley. The birds are singing, everyone is alive. Remember the drought? We have not forgotten!
