I always wanted to be a chef, then switched to the wine business at age 16. Coming from a wine-growing family in Cognac, it was a pleasure to spend my vacations in the vineyards with my parents. At age 24, after four years of Viticulture/Enology school and four years of managing the family estate of 24 acres, I wanted to discover the new world of wines. Ending up in the Napa Valley in 1990, I started working for Pradel Cellars and then for Newton Vineyards. I've been at Cain Vineyard & Winery since February 1994 and am the Associate Winemaker. |

After nearly 30 years of the usual life's preparation, I finally set upon a definite course: fine winegrowing. Having already a passing familiarity with the work in the U.S., I chose to go to France to study and to workat Mouton Rothschild in 1983, then back in the U.S. at Clos du Val, Clos Pegase, Peter Michael Winery, and Marimar Torres Estate. I came to Cain as winemaking consultant in 1990, becoming General Manager / Winemaker in 1991. I have focused on fine winegrowingfollowing the process from the vineyard into the winery and finally to the glass. There are just two essential requirements to do thisknowing and loving wine. These are never-ending pursuits, and all of the rest will follow. |
